101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion, Caen, 1944
The Tiger was a German Heavy tank made to counter the impressive soviet Armor encountered in the invasion of Russia. Fourteen Tiger tank commanders claimed over 100 vehicle kills each, and its 4 inch armor and 88 mm gun were hard to counter on the battlefield. The 101st SS Heavy Panzer Battalion fought the British during the Epsom and Goodwood operations following the Operation Overlord landings. They held the British armored forces back for some time when the remnants of the Corps were caught in the Falaise Pocket. They fought hard to keep an escape corridor open for the trapped German forces losing virtually all their armor and materiel in the process.

This Heller kit lacks major detail and was missing some key items found on Tiger Tanks. It is a re-issue of the Airfix mold which dates back to the 1960's. I scratch built the rear turret bin, sheilds on the mufflers, front fenders and rear mudflaps. The Tracks were awful lacking detail and hard as plastic. Crew came from spares. Its painted with Tamiya paints. It would have been a nice build if it wasn't for those bad tracks...
